Present Perfect Tense: Definition, Rules and Useful Examples ...The present perfect tense describes actions or situations that have a connection between the past and the present, such as starting in the past and continuing, having a present result, or occurring at an unspecified time. 

 Structure:

Subject + [has/have] + past participle (V3) + Object

Examples:

1. ✅ I have eaten lunch.

(The exact time isn’t stated, but the action affects the present — I’m not hungry now.)

2. ✅ She has visited Paris.

(At some point in her life, she visited Paris. It may still be relevant now.)

3. ✅ They have finished their homework.

(The homework is done, and now they are free.)

✅ Interrogative Rule for Present Perfect Tense

To form questions (interrogative sentences) in the present perfect tense, follow this structure:

🔹 Structure:

Have / Has + subject + past participle (V3) + ?

🔹 Rules:

Use "Have" with I, you, we, they

Use "Has" with he, she, it

✅ Examples:

I Have I done it correctly?

You Have you eaten breakfast?

We Have we finished the project?

They Have they visited the museum?

He Has he called you yet?

She Has she cleaned her room?

It Has it stopped raining?

✅ Negative Rule for Present Perfect Tense

To make a negative sentence in the present perfect tense, use this structure:

Subject + have/has + not + past participle (V3)

🔹 Rules:

Use "have not" (or haven’t) with I, you, we, they

Use "has not" (or hasn’t) with he, she, it

I I have not (haven’t) finished my homework.

You You haven’t seen that movie.

We We haven’t met before.

They They have not called me yet.

He He has not (hasn’t) arrived.

✅ WH-Questions in Present Perfect Tense

WH-questions (also called question word questions) in the present perfect tense ask for specific information — like what, where, when, who, why, how, etc.

WH-word + have/has + subject + past participle (V3) + ?
